Founded in 1946, the nonprofit, nonpartisan Middle East Institute (MEI) facilitates American understanding of the Middle East. The organization provides information and analysis on the Middle East, hosting programs like book launches, conferences, cultural series, and policy presentations. It also publishes The Middle East Journal, offers language classes, and runs the Oman Library. In addition, MEI is home to four centers: Center for Pakistan Studies, Center for Turkish Studies, Iran Program, and Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center.
