Genentech was founded by Herbert Boyer and Robert Swanson in 1976 and was one of the first biotechnology companies in existence. In fact, Boyer was one of the co-inventors of recombinant DNA technology, a method of altering the genetic content of cells. Genentech works to develop novel treatments and diagnostics for a number of diseases, including asthma, diabetes, arthritis and cancers of all kinds.
