Overview
The Scoop

Camphill Soltane is a nonprofit organization, established in 1988, with a mission “to create community through living, learning, and working with young adults and adults with special needs.” Located on a 50-acre stretch of Pennsylvania countryside, Camphill Soltane is a community of young adults with developmental disabilities and “coworkers,” who provide educational and vocational support. The organization is part of the Camphill Movement, which was founded in 1939 and is based on a philosophy of anthroposophy, which means “wisdom of the human being.”

On the Job

Coworkers live in the Camphill Soltane community with fellow coworkers and the young adults who they help. Among their responsibilities are classroom support, crafts, direct care for the disabled, gardening, household work, and tutoring. Working at Camphill Soltane is both challenging and rewarding. Interns have one day off each week and have longer breaks at Christmas and Easter.
