Your Career at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP

Community Involvement and Pro Bono Work

DWT is actively involved with many nonprofit organizations such as United Way, Habitat for Humanity, YMCA, OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science & Industry), Northwest Women's Law Center and the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

Training and Education

DWT's first-year associates are not assigned to departments. Instead, we offer each new associate the opportunity to work on a variety of matters with many different lawyers during his or her first year of practice.

Commitment to Diversity

We believe that a diverse work force provides better service for our clients and a better work environment for for our attorneys. Recruitment, retention and promotion of attorneys of color and women are a priority for DWT. We have established a diversity task force to focus on increasing the numbers of attorneys of color we hire and retain firmwide. The committee is currently identifying issues and will be recommending pilot programs throughout the firm and other changes to enhance our commitment.

Partnership Track

Historically, lawyers have been considered for partnership after six and one-half years with the firm. However, there is no minimum period before consideration for admission, nor are there entry restrictions based on partner/associate ratios. Partnership decisions are based on a number of factors including integrity, trust, professional responsibility, ability to work with others, quality of legal work, potential to develop client relationships, administrative and management activities, and participation in bar, civic and charitable organizations.

Non-Traditional Career Opportunities

We have been at the forefront in our commitment to provide flexible working arrangements for all lawyers within the framework of the financial realities of the firm. A number of our attorneys, both partners and associates have taken extended leaves of absence. In fact, several partners were admitted to partnership while working part-time.
