Your Career at Jenner & Block LLP

Exceeding standards

We do not compromise on quality and we live by the highest professional standards.  For nearly a century, Jenner & Block has delivered exceptional results in a broad range of legal areas for a full spectrum of clients.  Our attorneys in the Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and Washington, DC offices offer outstanding service and substantial experience.  Jenner & Block's mission is to exceed its own rigorous standards and its clients' expectations every day by providing the highest caliber legal counsel, adding value to the legal profession, maintaining a long tradition of public service, and providing an unrivaled environment for superior talent.

Leading transactional and litigation practices

We have outstanding transactional and litigation practices.  These are the cornerstones of Jenner & Block's success.  Clients served by the corporate group range from the top ranks of the Fortune 500, to middle-market and emerging companies, to closely held and family-run businesses. Many partners have served or continue to serve as general counsel, executive officers or board members of publicly held corporations.

Our litigators have argued numerous matters before the United States Supreme Court, all of the 13 United States Circuit Courts of Appeals, and dozens of federal and state courts across the country. As of September 2012, the firm's trial attorneys include 13 Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers, 9 former United States Supreme Court clerks, 87 former United States Court of Appeals clerks, many state appellate court clerks, two former U.S. Attorneys and numerous former Assistant U.S. Attorneys, a former Associate Attorney General of the United States and a former Illinois Supreme Court Justice.  The firm's trial prowess in high-profile, bet-the-company litigation is well known.

Award-winning pro bono and public service

We are a firm with a conscience.  We are committed to public service.  Jenner & Block has a long tradition of public service and pro bono advocacy. The firm has consistently been ranked among the top pro bono firms and in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012, The American Lawyer ranked the firm #1 in the country. We were the recipient of the Public Interest Law Initiative's 2006 Pro Bono Initiative Award, the Pro Bono Institute's 2006 John H. Pickering Award, the DC Bar's 2005 Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year, and the American Bar Association's prestigious Pro Bono Publico Award.  Associates are encouraged to seek out pro bono matters of their choice, and the firm does not limit the amount of pro bono work that attorneys undertake.  The pro bono matters associates take on can often take them in unexpected and exciting directions.  In January of 2009, Jenner & Block Partner Lindsay Harrison, as an associate, successfully argued her pro bono immigration case before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Unrivaled environment for superior talent

Jenner & Block is committed to creating and maintaining an unrivaled environment for associates.  The opportunity to learn and develop new skills is a key focus for us.  Jenner and Block's Strategic Plan recognizes "continuous learning" as a core value, and the firm devotes significant resources, including a full-time partner, to managing its development programs.  The firm has a reduced work schedule policy allowing associates to harmonize demands relating to family care and child-rearing with the demands of providing superior legal service.  Active involvement in firm life is encouraged and welcomed, and this involvement extends to the community -- Jenner & Block lawyers serve in legal, civic, charitable, professional and religious organizations, in alumni programs, and on boards.

Diversity and inclusion

Jenner & Block is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in the firm, the profession and the community.  We have a variety of policies and structures in place to promote and maintain the diversity of our legal and non-legal personnel, and maintain our inclusive environment.

Our efforts are guided by our Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) Committee, which has existed at the firm for more than 20 years.  Our D&I Committee works closely with the firm’s Hiring Committee, the Professional Development team, the firm’s Affinity Groups and all firm departments.  The D&I Committee reports regularly to the firm’s Management Committee on the firm’s diversity & inclusion initiatives.  The D&I Committee includes several senior partners and firm leaders, and is chaired by a senior partner who is also a practice group leader and a member of the firm’s Policy Committee.  Additionally, our Associate Board of the D&I Committee provides a way for us to involve associates in the work of the D&I Committee.  The Associate Board hosts events that promote inclusion, such as small group dinners and themed happy hours, to encourage internal networking and relationship building.

The firm has a full-time Diversity & Inclusion Manager who oversees firm-wide initiatives.  The D&I Manager works closely with our Chief Talent Officer and our Professional Development and Recruiting departments to develop a holistic approach to talent management and development.  Additionally, the D&I Manager works with both the D&I Committee and the Associate Board of the D&I Committee to create, execute and implement all goals and initiatives.  The D&I Manager also works with law schools, professional organizations and pipeline programs in the community.
