SURVEY SAYS

Serving for peace is a sacrifice

One must not only be committed to serving for peace but one must also have “passion” to survive the life of a Peace Corps volunteer, because volunteers do not only fight for peace in the outside but also peace in themselves.  As one insider states, the downside of being a volunteer is that the “stress level can be quite high due to the loss of some amount of your ability to fend for yourself in a foreign land with a different language and cultural rules.”

Tips from the inside

Who works where

The Peace Corps has two types of workers: Peace Corps staff and Peace Corps volunteers.  People who work for the staff tend to be professionals with higher academic degrees who recruit, train and provide support for volunteers in the field.  They are paid comparable wages to other civil servants with similar experience and degrees.  Many of these staff members have been Peace Corps volunteers earlier in their lives.  Staff jobs can involve overseas travel but most are based in the United States.

Should I go to Law School?
My time working at a law firm really hasn't convinced me that most of what lawyers do, especially at the more junior levels, really requires much intellectual creativity at all. So, the first part of my question is: how fair do you think this assessment is?This first question is really a subsidiary to the larger question I'm mulling over: should I go to law school?
