ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

An American icon

As a brand name that brings a sparkle to the eyes of millions of children across the globe, Mattel has consistently been one of the hottest toy companies in the country and is currently the No. 1 toymaker in the world.  Aside from producing that beloved queen of fashion dolls, Barbie, for nearly half a century, Mattel is also the force behind popular products such as Hot Wheels, Matchbox cars and Fisher-Price play sets.  The firm also manufactures an array of action figures and toys based on Walt Disney movies and the Harry Potter books.  That’s a lot of toys for girls and boys and a lot of jobs for moms and dads; the company employs approximately 31,000 people in Asia, Europe, and North and South America.  The firm earned $3.48 billion through three quarters of 2009, which is hardly the pace it wants to surpass its $5.92 billion earnings the previous year.  In 2007, Forbes named Mattel one of America’s Most Trustworthy Companies.  In 2009, Fortune ranked Mattel No. 48 on its 100 Best Companies to Work For list, and the magazine also designated the company No. 415 on its 2009 list of America’s Largest Corporations.

Tips from the inside

Corporate Barbie

If you’re ready to make a full-time commitment to the company, just create a profile on the careers section of the Mattel website.  Mattel offers full medical, dental, life and accident insurance to its employees as well as a retirement plan that provides 100-percent vesting after three years of employment.  The company also has an employee stock purchase plan and adoption assistance.  Nice extras include a fitness center and, last but not least, discount merchandise and toy-testing privileges for young family members of employees.
