Tips from the inside

If you possess “technical competence, self-confidence and sincerity,” you may have a shot at a position with Baker Hostetler. According to a corporate associate, “Baker looks for candidates in at least the top half of a tier one law school with engaging personalities.” A Houston contact adds, “Good grades are very important, but prior career experience and law school activities can get you an interview even if your grades are slightly lower.” However, expect to be on your toes when it comes to interviews. A real estate associate warns, “The screening process is quite diligent with multiple interviews and background checks at the lateral level.” Finally, be sure to mention any unique academic abilities. According to a litigator, “Because [the firm has] a lot of unusual practices, many candidates who are successful have specialized experience, like knowing Spanish fluently, international experience, former journalism experience, etc.”

Should I go to Law School?
My time working at a law firm really hasn't convinced me that most of what lawyers do, especially at the more junior levels, really requires much intellectual creativity at all. So, the first part of my question is: how fair do you think this assessment is?This first question is really a subsidiary to the larger question I'm mulling over: should I go to law school?
