Of British and Dutch origin, Royal Dutch Shell, or Shell, controls an empire of diverse upstream and downstream operations that span more than 140 countries, with 45,000 service stations worldwide and more than 25 refineries and chemical plants. Its headquarters are in The Hague, the Netherlands, while its registered office is in London. In the United Kingdom, Shell provides approximately 25 percent of the nation’s gas and 16 percent of its petrol and diesel from its 850 retail sites, all of which flow from the Stanlow refinery in Cheshire. Shell’s five business divisions are exploration and production, gas and power, oil sands, oil products and chemicals.
