There's more to life than flying privilege

Some of our sources are frustrated with Continental's benefits package. One says that "flight benefits are touted as an integral part of compensation, indeed why compensation is below market. But the benefits don't pan out." Another says the company "assigns a bogus [salary] value for ... flying privileges." A more level-headed contact reports that the "industry is fragile, with mergers and possible mergers being explored," and hence "Overtime is available on a limited basis, awarded by seniority ... profit sharing up until [September 11th] was good." And "401(k) was suspended as part of cutbacks." Some of these should come back in 2007, he says, "after a good year in aviation."
