Tips from the inside

A Hong Kong contact reminds potential associates not to underestimate Linklaters’ presence abroad: “Even though you may get a comment like ‘Linklaters who?’ (at least for the time being), anywhere outside the U.S., you'd get a comment like ‘Cravath who?’”  That being said, getting hired at the firm is far from easy.  “Good grades and top-20 school will definitely get you in the door,” according to an M&A associate, but more is needed to make an impression. Given the firm’s strong international presence, the strongest candidates are “very international people with a good academic background.”  A junior contact emphasizes that “language skills are highly valued” along with a willingness to travel.  Applicants “must have an interest in international practice” and it is also “helpful to have a commercial outlook,” according to a senior associate.

Should I go to Law School?
My time working at a law firm really hasn't convinced me that most of what lawyers do, especially at the more junior levels, really requires much intellectual creativity at all. So, the first part of my question is: how fair do you think this assessment is?This first question is really a subsidiary to the larger question I'm mulling over: should I go to law school?
