Dykema SURVEY SAYS

Vault’s Verdict: Associates at Dykema love their firm’s culture, commitment to pro bono, thorough training and well-meaning partners. Some wish, however, that all those perks came with a slightly bigger paycheck.

Associate Life

Satisfaction
• “I'm much more satisfied with my job than my friends at larger firms. We are given substantial responsibility early in our careers instead of being trapped with only document review and legal research.”
• “I love the firm I work for, and I genuinely like the attorneys I have worked with, both in this office and in others. However, overall, the daily grind of keeping up with a busy litigation docket, combined with non-billable requirements, can be tiresome.”
• “I work on interesting cases and I am given real work. I communicate with both clients and opposing counsel on a daily basis, conduct research, draft pleadings and briefs, respond to discovery, attend hearings, take depositions, and negotiate settlements. I am given primary responsibility for handling less complex cases, but still receive adequate supervision when needed.”
• “I have excellent opportunities to explore different areas of law. I am also given a lot of responsibility in managing cases. My job, however, can be too demanding at times.”
