In the short term, says one source, there are “not a lot” of advancement opportunities due to many 45- to 55-year-olds “waiting for retirement.” But in the long term, there should be “lots of room for advancement.” Says another, in general, “Opportunities for advancement are extremely low,” which is “very much in line with (the rest of the) oil and gas” industry. One contact offers that the “slow and gradual” career path led him to “look at other opportunities,” and he eventually left for another major oil company.
