ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

New York City-based Bernstein & Pinchuk was founded by its namesakes and current co-managing partners, Drew Bernstein and Neil Pinchuk, in 1983. The privately-held firm divides its business into four units: accounting and auditing, accounting administration, consulting and tax services. B&P's client list includes small- and mid-sized public and private companies in a range of industries, including commercial real estate and development, hospitality, manufacturing, retail food and pharmaceuticals.

Besides its core audit and accounting work, B&P offers consulting advice on the development of accounting and financial systems, performs feasibility studies and prepares financial forecasts and budgets. Its professionals also help clients with cost/benefit analysis, vendor selection and computer automation systems. Through its accounting administration business, B&P provides outsourced accounting services, including bank reconciliations, bill payment, payroll processing and computerized record management. Finally, the firm's tax services include advice on business transactions, executive compensation program development, pension and profit-sharing plan tax compliance, organizational structuring and international business tax services.

In the global marketplace

Despite its small size, Bernstein & Pinchuk is a firm with international reach. Many of its professionals are fluent in multiple languages, and B&P has provided accounting and consulting services to clients in Europe and Asia as well as in the U.S. One of its strengths is advising foreign clients on the steps involved with forming U.S. companies, complying with U.S. federal, state and local tax laws and staying in line with Securities and Exchange Commission regulations. Co-founder Drew Bernstein was the catalyst for his firm's global focus; his extensive travel in China inspired B&P to take its business overseas.

In January 2008 B&P opened its first-ever branch office, in Beijing. According to the firm, B&P's the new outpost "combines local knowledge of Chinese cultural and business procedures with our expertise in the many financial reporting requirements associated with the U.S. and international capital markets." Besides offering services to companies currently established in China, B&P provides assistance to clients considering setting up new businesses there.

Bernstein & Pinchuk's co-founders and managing partners are hands-on members of the firm, and their professional experience has shaped B&P's practice from the very beginning. Drew Bernstein, who specializes in the retail manufacturing, hospitality, real estate and professional services sectors, provides advisory and audit services to clients in Israel, Switzerland, Germany, France, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. (Good thing he's fluent in French.) As an advisor and accountant to the real estate industry, Bernstein has served real estate clients who have conducted over 200 transactions with an aggregate value of more than $3 billion. He's also a qualified expert witness, and is qualified to perform audits for Securities and Exchange Commission companies. Most recently, Bernstein led the establishment of B&P's new office in China.

The man with whom he shares the letterhead, Neil Pinchuk, focuses on a client list based in Denmark, Germany, Israel and France. Pinchuk's 25-year accounting career includes experience with the manufacturing, retail, professional services, real estate, entertainment and financial industries, as well as pro sports, nonprofits and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. His areas of expertise are partnership and corporate taxation, American taxation of overseas investors and corporations, payroll and sales taxes, multi-state taxation and partnership and corporate taxation; like Bernstein, he's also qualified as an expert witness in state courts. Both men maintain memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) and the National Society of Accountants (NSA).
