ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

THE SCOOP

Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati built its reputation advising some of the major tech and life sciences industries as well as the banks and venture capitalists keeping those bold experiments flush with greenbacks. It follows, then, that the firm is known for its deep roots in the tech sector and for its prominence in the historic IPOs, mergers and litigation that shook and shaped a new economy.

Rising with a Valley

The Valleyspeak that made Wilson Sonsini’s name wasn’t the “like, totally!” variety. Rather, it was the firm’s thorough comprehension of its clients’ businesses and its capacity to talk the talk of Silicon Valley’s burgeoning industries.

Wilson SURVEY SAYS

OUR SURVEY SAYS

Vault’s Verdict: With Silicon Valley’s most promising start-ups and some of tech’s biggest names as clients, Wilson Sonsini associates are happy to be doing, in the words of one lucky attorney, “sexy work” with “sexy clients.” On the downside, working deals for those clients can be a 24/7 affair.

Associate Life

Satisfaction
• “I am satisfied with the quality/type of work I am doing and the amount of client interaction I am receiving. This is not a micro-managing firm—you are left with enough freedom to operate.”
• “Clients are exciting. There is opportunity for growth and learning. My one gripe is that work comes in waves and you sometimes have to work just to find work. Sometimes there is more work than you can handle, and other times it is up to you to bother people about handing some work to you.”
• “The work is challenging and often interesting. The attorneys in my group are generally supportive and open to discussion. However, the hours are unpredictable.”
• “Despite the expected document review assignments, the work has been relatively interesting for a first-year workload. The clients that we work with here in the Silicon Valley are top notch, which leads to interesting cases.”

Tips from the inside

Vault’s Verdict: Not surprisingly for a Silicon Valley firm knee deep in start-up work, Wilson Sonsini drifts toward candidates who can demonstrate independent, enterprising spirits. A tech background is even better.
