In many ways, the formation of Clifford Chance presaged the future of modern law practice, especially as it is carried out in its native town of London. The firm was created in 1987 when giant U.K. firms Coward Chance and Clifford Turner merged, creating an entity the Times of London called "the country's first mega law firm." Indeed, Clifford Chance was twice as large as the firm that had previously been the U.K.'s largest: Linklaters & Paines.

Our training opportunities for associates are among the best in the world. Clifford Chance Academy – our global training function –is now in its second decade of operation. Recognized as one of the premier career development groups in the legal industry, the Academy has delivered more than 1500* courses for approximately 20,000*[1] participants in the last five years alone.
The role of the Academy is to support and enhance the development of all of our people and to support the business in achieving its strategic priorities. To do so effectively, we are constantly innovating to ensure our courses are adapting to the environment in which Clifford Chance lawyers and staff operate.
Q&A WITH Clifford Chance US LLP
1. How long do interviews take, and with whom will I be meeting?
Generally, you will meet individually with two partners and two or three associates, depending on whether you join us for lunch. Each interview lasts for 30 minutes. If you have a morning interview and join us for lunch, you should expect to be here for a total of 3 1/2- 4 hours.
2. Can I ask to meet with people from a certain practice area?
Yes. If there's a practice group that you are interested in, we want to know about it. We'll do whatever we can to ensure you visit with attorneys in that group.
3. How long after my callback interview should I expect to hear from the firm?
Our Hiring Committee tries to make decisions as soon as possible, at least within two weeks. Many candidates hear back from us soon.
