Associate Life
Vault’s Verdict: Pillsbury’s partners apparently keep their doors open, by and large, mentoring associates and compensating to some extent for the fact that junior lawyers have little opportunity to communicate with firm leaders.

Firm Culture & Associate Satisfaction

Tips from the inside

Pillsbury looks “mainly at candidates from top-10 law schools” who pack “top grades” and “law review” experience, though “if you lack sociability, good luck getting an offer,” sources say.  “Personable,” “bright and likeable” candidates will fare better in an “efficient interview and callback cycle” that typically results in a “relatively quick decision.”  While one attorney asserts that “it’s easy” to land a job if you boast a top-10 academic pedigree, a litigator emphasizes that personality is paramount: “The firm is looking for intelligent, sharp candidates who are well-rounded.”  That said, Pillsbury has “shrunk the size of (its) summer class and frozen lateral hiring because of (the) recession,” an insider reports, while another agrees that the firm’s hiring process is “getting more competitive.”

Should I go to Law School?
My time working at a law firm really hasn't convinced me that most of what lawyers do, especially at the more junior levels, really requires much intellectual creativity at all. So, the first part of my question is: how fair do you think this assessment is?This first question is really a subsidiary to the larger question I'm mulling over: should I go to law school?
