Davis Polk SURVEY SAYS

Vault’s Verdict: Davis Polk associates say they have excellent job security and get to work on some of the most high-profile matters in the financial world. The firm’s formal culture and hit-or-miss mentoring initiatives may not be the best fit for more gregarious types, however.

Associate Life

Satisfaction
• "I get to interact with senior-level associates and partners on a daily basis. They actually value my input and involve me in high-level strategic discussions, including those with our clients. A lot of responsibility is given early on, and there is not very much micromanagement. This can, however, sometimes be a little overwhelming to a junior associate."
• "My job is not bad, but I wish I had more responsibility and could do more actual litigation. Also, I feel as though I’ve been relatively lucky with my work because I’ve been aggressive about seeking it out."
• "Davis Polk is a fine place to work and preeminent in the capital markets field, particularly overseas, where we are quite strong."
• "Work is interesting and high-profile, but a lot of long hours and unnecessary tasks are required."
