Reznick’s roots
In 1977, three friends—David Reznick, Stuart Fedder and Ivan Silverman—opened an accounting practice together in Washington, D.C. Reznick, Fedder & Silverman soon moved to roomier digs in Bethesda, Md., and from there expanded to a second office in Baltimore. More growth added locations in Charlotte, N.C., Atlanta and Sacramento.
In 2004, Reznick, Fedder & Silverman was reborn as Reznick Group—a moniker, according to the press release, that was designed “to recognize every employee’s contribution to the firm’s success.” Success took the form of a merger with Illinois CPAs Friduss, Lukee, Schiff & Company in 2005, which added an office in Chicago. Reznick opened an office in Tysons Corner, Va., the same year, for a total of 10 locations nationwide. Its newest offices, opened in late 2006 and 2007, are in Los Angeles and Austin. Interestingly, and unlike most other small and midsized accounting firms, Reznick’s offices aren’t clustered tightly in one region, but spread across the country. The firm says it’s on track to raise headcount to 2,300 by 2014, with particular focus on the Northeast and Southeast.
