SURVEY SAYS

Calm but professional

The culture encompasses a “relaxed,” “open-door team environment” that is nevertheless “professional”—meaning office-appropriate behavior is strongly encouraged. One insider says, “I have worked at companies before where political views were openly expressed,” but “this does not happen at J.H. Cohn,” because “the focus is more on work and less on personal matters.” The management’s treatment of other staffers is professional, too. “I feel I am treated fairly by my superiors and receive positive feedback when I complete a job properly,” one insider says.

Tips from the inside

Check out Cohn

If your career is “flat-lining,” J.H. Cohn encourages you to check out its list of current job openings in the tristate area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut). The firm posts its campus recruiting schedule online along with a list of current job openings within its careers section. One insider applied from a “job posting I saw on Monster.com” and “was offered my current position after two interviews.”

”The first interview was with the department director,” says one source. Questions focus on whether candidates have the “skills” and “overall organization to work in a fast-paced work environment.” During the second-round interview, expect to meet with “two other members of the team aside from the director.” Ultimately, says an insider, “I was offered the position that night after I returned home.”
