Good grooming

McKinsey consultants describe their firm as “fast-paced, demanding and challenging,” but also collegial and supportive.  One of the “most distinctive attributes is its emphasis on feedback,” which can be “overwhelming” at times.  “From the moment you walk in, you’re being groomed to be a partner, and you are constantly receiving feedback, 90 percent of which is developmental, in order to help you reach that bar,” a Chicago staffer reports.

If you have the work ethic and the drive to make it in the industry, KPMG wants you. “If you are a solid candidate with experience in a growing practice, we can’t find enough people.” Though, snagging a full-time position is “competitive for undergrads.” The firm recruits “online,” “through universities,” “job fairs,” “referrals,” and “other locations and events.” In addition, the firm has set up a 17,000-strong online alumni network that includes personal profiles and information alongside job listings and company news. The system allows current, former and future employees to contact each other and build relationships, which KPMG has credited with aiding in recruitment and employee advancement.
