Firm culture

Curtis is "a white-glove place - old-school continental," we're told. "The attorneys are wonderful people and there is definitively a 'socialize at work and not elsewhere' mentality," reports an associate. In line with its reputation as a more traditional work environment, Curtis is one of the few firms that still requires its attorneys to dress formally for work (i.e., ties). Despite (or because of?) these formalities, associates report being fairly happy. A junior associate says, "Everyone here is really nice. It's amazing how important that is."

Hiring process
If you're not from a top-tier law school, excellent grades are a requirement for receiving an offer from Curtis. An associate explains, "Applicants generally need to be at the top of their class if they are coming from secondtier law schools; meanwhile, those from top law schools only need to be middle-of-the-road. Because we're a midsized firm, though, personality and ability to mesh with the firm are very important." Another associate adds that the firm is "looking to hire multiple-language speakers with an interest in international work; this is probably as important as grades."
