Tips from the inside

Selectivity:

According to a corporate contact, “Less than 1 percent of those who would like to work at Cravath receive offers.”  So, before you even think about getting a sniff from the firm, you’d better be in the top 10 percent of your class from a top school.  A New York associate advises that if you attended Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Chicago or NYU, “your prospects of gaining admission to the firm are significantly higher.”  If you manage to get by Cravath’s screening interview, be prepared for an extensive call-back interview.  A junior associate describes it as “a full-day, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. interview where you meet with multiple partners and associates.”  On a positive note, don’t expect a waiting game.  “If you get the job, you will often receive an offer at the end of the day.  If you haven’t heard from them after three days, you usually did not get the job,” reports a source.

Should I go to Law School?
My time working at a law firm really hasn't convinced me that most of what lawyers do, especially at the more junior levels, really requires much intellectual creativity at all. So, the first part of my question is: how fair do you think this assessment is?This first question is really a subsidiary to the larger question I'm mulling over: should I go to law school?
