ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

THE SCOOP

Established over 200 years ago, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP is the oldest Wall Street firm still in existence. Known especially for its capital markets, bankruptcy and real estate expertise, the firm is a well-established presence in the New York legal market and has expanded around the globe in recent years.

Dating Back to the Days of Washington . . . As in George

Cadwalader was founded in 1792, when folks were still sealing letters with wax and writing with feathers.

Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP SURVEY SAYS

OUR SURVEY SAYS

Vault’s Verdict: It seems a few less than personable partners, not enough work to go around and lackadaisical training have left a bad taste in associates’ mouths. But associates do appreciate market-level compensation—as well as fantastic views of the Hudson.

Associate Life

Satisfaction
• “Things have gotten really slow. It's scary. Although it's nice for a little while, being slow for so long digs into your self-esteem and your job satisfaction. Getting paid for reading your Kindle is only nice if you don't have a career to worry about.”
• “The work here is very interesting, and I am doing far more substantive work than most of my peers at other firms in other cities. Sometimes things can be slow, though.”
• “The assignments are useless in developing skills, the partners and senior associates, for the most part are at best impolite, at worst, actually mean, and the bonuses are a joke.”
• “The work is of high quality when we have it, but it has been a slow year for junior corporate associates.”

Tips from the inside

Vault’s Verdict: Word on the street is that Cadwalader has zeroed in on hiring as many Ivy League graduates as possible. The good news: if you make into the summer class, a permanent offer is pretty much in the bag.
