Named for the brightest star in the sky, Sirius is a provider of satellite radio. Its offerings are accessed via a subscription model and include 130 channels of programming that encompass local weather and traffic stations near major cities, talk outlets to please fans both of Martha Stewart and Howard Stern and nearly 70 channels of all kinds of music. The company has three satellites in orbit, two of which are broadcasting over North America at any given time. Sirius receivers can be purchased in a store or as part of a new car—the company has deals with Rolls-Royce, Chrysler, Ford, BMW and Mitsubishi. The company’s radios are also installed in Hertz rental cars. Sirius can also be used in boats near shore, and offers channels that provide information on sea temperatures and conditions.
