ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
Up, up and awayBoeing needs very little introduction. Indeed, it is difficult to even think of the company without automatically adding “747” to its name. Still, it’s better to draw a line between what we already know and what we don’t, so here it goes: Boeing is one of the biggest aerospace and defense companies in the world—second only to defense contractor Lockheed Martin and European commercial jetliner producer. Still, when all is said and done, second place is not so bad. With customers in more than 90 countries worldwide and up to 150,000 employees in 48 U.S. states and 70 countries, the company is still soaring above the clouds. Its principal facilities are located in the Puget Sound area of Washington State, as well as in Southern California, St. Louis and the firm’s Chicago headquarters. Boeing is organized into five major sectors: commercial airplanes (it forms the bulk of the firm’s business), precision management and mobility systems, network and space systems (the firm is the lead contractor on the international space station), support systems and Boeing Capital Corporation (financing solutions for customers in the commercial aviation sector).
