ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
More than three decades of thinking differently
Apple has come a long way since 1976, when Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak first built their own computer. Today, the Cupertino, Calif.-based company produces its constantly evolving lines of computers along with music players, phones and other devices. The flagship Macintosh line (now MacPro) offers Apple's own revered Mac OS X operating system, the sleek iLife multimedia application suite and vlogger-friendly QuickTime, running on processors by the once-shunned Intel, while still maintaining its zealous cult following. But while once a niche favorite among the art and publishing crowds, the company's expansion into sleek mobile devices such as the iPod and iPhone has vaulted Apple to its current status as a newly minted industry leader. Year after year, Apple leaps up the rankings on such prestigious lists as the Fortune 500 and BusinessWeek’s InfoTech 100, often pulling well ahead of competitor Microsoft.
