Xcel Energy is one of the largest utility companies in the U.S. and has been serving its customers for 130 years. The company distributes electricity to nearly 3.3 million customers and natural gas to 1.8 million others in western and Midwestern states including Colorado, Minnesota, New Mexico and Texas. The company owns more than 33,000 miles of natural gas pipelines. Xcel also owns 71 power plants that generate over 15,300 megawatts of power (a megawatt can power around 1,000 homes) -- the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant and the Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant together can produce 1,617 megawatts.
