SURVEY SAYS

Good reviews

"I can't imagine leaving the firm to practice law elsewhere," declares one contented associate. With its "many opportunities for significant client contact, early responsibility, and community involvement," as well as great clients and colleagues, it's pretty hard to beat. Though somewhat "buttoned-down and conservative in style," the otherwise "collegial and relaxed" firm has an honest open-door environment. "Everyone up to the managing partner is very accessible" and behaves respectfully; we can only assume the "firm-wide 'no jerks' policy" is doing the job.

Getting Hired

Tips from the inside

Locals wanted

Wyatt is more impressed by local ties than pedigree, as shown by its regularly "hiring the top students from local law schools" such as the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. "It is often more difficult to get hired coming from a top 20 law school when one is not on law review" than it is to get hired from one of the local universities. But in addition to regional ties, grades, law review and the multitude of other extracurriculars, prospective candidates should be "equally personable and hardworking." In sharp contrast to many other firms, "it is not too difficult to obtain a summer associate position, but it is very challenging to obtain a permanent offer if you are a summer associate," cautions a source.
