When wondering which appliances to buy, most Americans go back to their trusted brand: Whirlpool. As one of the industry's top manufacturers and marketers of home appliances, Whirlpool is quite literally a household name worldwide. The company sells its appliances in about 170 countries and has approximately 70 manufacturing and research centers around the globe. In addition, Whirlpool has a strong presence in Latin America, Europe and India, and a growing presence in Asia. That said, most of its business is stateside: Whirlpool still derives about 60 percent of its sales from North American markets. Whirlpool manufactures appliances across all major categories, including fabric care, cooking, refrigeration, dishwashers, countertop appliances, garage organization and water filtration.

Work vs. life

Reviews of the work/life balance are similarly mixed. "I think work/life balance is within the power of the individual to commit to. But sometimes that commitment is difficult to pull off within the demands of the job," muses one source. "Hours are far too demanding. I believe this is the result of a highly matrixed organizational structure which causes confusion over responsibility and way too many meetings," says another.
