ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
From the trail to the (urban) jungle
Timberland is a manufacturer of footwear, clothing and accessories for use anywhere in the great outdoors—everywhere from hiking trails to the urban jungle. Aimed at men, women and children alike, Timberland has a reputation that marries outdoorsy ruggedness with premium quality product, the most iconic of which is Timberland's signature brown boots and tree-logo-adorned apparel. In addition, the firm produces Mion-branded watersport footwear, its GoLite brand of outdoor running shoes, its high-tech sock brand SmartWool, and two recently acquired brands: Howies active sports gear, and IPATH skate shoes and apparel. These many products are sold online and at department stores, athletic-wear stores and company-run shops and factory outlets. Bouncing back from a slight slip in 2006 and 2007, Timberland has posted annual revenue sales of $1.5 billion in 2008. It employs 2,016 employees in the United States and 3,402 worldwide.
