ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

Thompson Coburn -- born from the 1996 merger of the venerable St. Louis firms, Thompson & Mitchell and Coburn & Croft -- ranks as the largest law firm in the region. TC also maintains a highly regarded office in Washington, D.C., and a branch in Belleville, Ill., which operates one of the largest litigation defense practices in the state. With nearly 300 attorneys, the general business firm practices in virtually every major area of the law.

For an Am Law 200 firm, Thompson Coburn has participated in a large number of noteworthy cases, including both the longest jury trial (Kemner v. Monsanto) and the largest civil trial (USA v. Philip Morris) in U.S. history.

SURVEY SAYS

Culture

"I am pleased with my firm and would not want to work at another firm in this market," reports a fourth-year at Thompson Coburn, voicing what seems to be a widely-held opinion. A senior associate says, "Thompson Coburn has provided the support and mentoring necessary for me to be a successful attorney with ever-growing opportunities." Many associates cite the "challenging work" and "the wealth of experience available" among the firm's greatest assets, though a few sources wish they were "receiving more responsibility and more meaningful work."
