ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
Comfort foods, to the nth degree
J.M. Smucker Company—better known as Smucker's—is famous for its self-branded set of jams and jellies (approximately 40 varieties and formats in all), but there are quite a lot of other products on the corporate shelf as well. It owns the market-leading peanut butter label (Jif); a collection of ice cream toppings; potato preparations, refrigerated and frozen biscuits and syrup; and some familiar names in the baking category (Pillsbury, Eagle Brand, Crisco, PET). The company operates a specialty brands division which ties together various interests—Canadian and international business segments, food service and a beverage operation working with the R.W. Knudsen and Santa Cruz brands. The company is among the top 20 food-related consumer products enterprises in the Fortune 1000. Smucker's landed a quite impressive 49-percent sales increase in fiscal 2009 which totaled $3.8 billion.
