The merger of two of the largest phone companies in the United States in 2005 led to the birth of Sprint Nextel, serving almost 50 million subscribers in the country. Sprint Nextel also owns 49 percent of Virgin Mobile USA, a joint venture with Virgin Mobile Telecoms, and its wireless business unit carries Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for the cable industry in joint ventures serving more than one million customers.

Interview process varies

Sprint Nextel insiders say there are three rounds of interview with several functional and managerial levels. Another source discloses that "questions were in the area of data, global services and interaction with other employees, as well as prior sales and management endeavors." According to a source, the engineering interviews are highly technical whereas interviews for the certain positions are "fairly laid-back." The same source adds: "I did more listening than talking."
