At many firms, it takes several years before consultants are given managerial responsibilities on projects. We hire employees at various stages in their careers, and like most consulting firms, also recruit heavily on campus- so many of our employees join us just after graduation (from undergrad, MBA, or PhD). Within our firm, consultants are divided into four levels (C1-C4), distinguished by prior work/educational experience and degrees of responsibility given to consultants. Out of undergrad, many consultants typically join us at the C1 or C2 level. It’s common for consultants who have completed their MBA or PhD to begin as a C3, C4, or even as a senior consultant (of which there are two levels).
