ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

THE SCOOP

Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP has defined itself as the go-to firm for hedge funds and their ilk. While this practice focus translates into double-digit profits and aggressive growth during boom years, the firm has, smartly, tried to diversify its offerings over the years in order to ride out the inevitable bumps in the economy.

Hedging Their Niche

Founded in 1969 by a small group of attorneys who wanted to escape the traditional BigLaw model, Schulte Roth & Zabel primarily advises clients in the financial services industry, with a particular emphasis on representing investment management firms.

Satisfaction
• “I am very satisfied with the content and substance of my work and with our clients. I am not satisfied with many aspects of the firm/management.”
• “In general, Schulte has very sophisticated, financial clients. This tends to lead to interesting legal assignments. Moreover, Schulte tends to staff matters lean (especially compared to other New York firms that I have seen)—so associates can get their hands dirty early in their careers.”
• “The firm has really gone downhill—lots of associates [are] leaving and partnership does not seem to be making any efforts to replace them.”
• “Work and people are great. Hours [are] too long—I work well over 200 hours every month.  Going on vacation is stressful.”
