ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

30 September 2010 merger update

Effective 30 September 2010, UK-based Denton Wilde Sapte LLP merged with US-based Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP to become SNR Denton. The combined firm boasts offices in 48 locations in 32 countries across four continents.

Ed. note: The profile below refers to the pre-merger Denton Wilde Sapte.

Denton Wilde Sapte’s reach extends from the City of London to the Persian Gulf, and focuses on four core sectors: energy, transport and infrastructure; financial institutions; real estate and retail; and technology, media and telecoms. Although the firm faced some difficulties in its early years, it managed to post growth in both turnover and profits in 2008. The firm’s alliances in Africa look set to yield greater dividends as the firm pursues closer ties with the region, while it continues to expand its presence in the Middle East and the CIS.

SNR Denton SURVEY SAYS

“Pushed as far as you want to go”

Satisfaction levels are high among Denton Wilde Sapte trainees. One tells us he’s found “good levels of responsibility combined with a relaxed, professional culture.” Overall, the firm seems willing to give as much responsibility as trainees are willing to take on. Trainees can also expect heavy involvement in important transactions and direct client contact, although the economy has led to lighter workloads in some departments. “I have been pushed a lot in terms of drafting and more complex technical matters, and although challenging at the time, these experiences will put me in good stead for being a fully qualified lawyer,” one trainee reports.

How does DWS approach graduate recruitment?

Deciding which law firm to apply to can be a daunting experience and it can be difficult to differentiate between each firm.  The careers portion of our web site is designed to answer as many of your questions as possible, as well as to give details of our recruiting events and seminars.  You'll find insights into life as a trainee and beyond at Denton Wilde Sapte, as well as detailed information about applying for training contracts and vacation schemes.

The firm has two trainee intakes: in March and September.  Applications are now open for training contracts starting in March and September 2010; the firm will take on 10 trainees in March and another 25 in September.  We are also accepting applications for summer vacation schemes and open days in 2008.

Tips from the inside

Looking for sparks

Those hoping for trainee spots at Denton Wilde Sapte should expect a “fairly standard” but “pretty competitive” process that includes interviews with human resources and two partners and a case study presentation—a prospect that at least one trainee recalls as “intimidating”. But another assures candidates: “Both my first and second round interviews were very relaxed, and I did not feel like I was being grilled.”  Recruits should be eager to learn, outgoing, intelligent and hardworking, trainees say.
