SURVEY SAYS

Firm culture

The firm has "a very congenial, social culture (at least among associates interested in being social)," one source tells us. Not everyone agrees. Another associate says that "the firm is rather class oriented" and "there is not a lot of mixing between the groups." Nonetheless, the general vibe seems to be "professional, but casual." Its size helps too; Richards Layton is "small enough that everyone really does have an opportunity to know all of the other attorneys in the firm at a more personal level." Of course, "everyone works very hard." When it comes to socializing between associates, some feel that there's "not a lot of social stuff, except at the annual parties." However, "there is plenty of time for socializing," for those who want to. The firm also lacks "the competitive animosity that you see in larger firms."

Tips from the inside

You want us, we want you

Richards Layton wants you if you want them. One associate notes that the firm is looking for "smart people who want to be in Delaware." In terms of qualifications, "applicants need to have strong grades and oral skills." The firm also wants to hire people for the long-term, "not just grunts to push a heavy volume of paper." Personality-wise, a candidate must be "intelligent" and "willing to work hard." The firm is particularly looking for people who "will fit in" to the firm's culture.
