ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
Today, CDMA, tomorrow, the world!Qualcomm manufactures software and microchips for cellular phones. A communications pioneer, the company invented the CDMA (code-division multiple access) code, which is a method of transmitting data over cellular networks, in 1989. It currently controls around 4,500 patents—four out of five are related to CDMA—and issues licenses to other companies that allow them to use its technology. CDMA enables the transmission of a much greater quantity of data over cellular networks than is possible with other technologies and currently stands as the world’s second most widely used wireless tech standard, used by about a fifth of all cell phone networks.
