Getting Hired
Tips from the inside
Tough competitionGetting through the gates of Preston Gates is not an easy thing to do."If you know someone here and they like you that helps a lot," says one associate."Even so, a good pedigree is a must." Another mentions, "It is much easier to be hired as a lateral associate than to get hired right out of law school." The hiring process is competitive. An associate explains, "The firm tends to look for bright, successful, outgoing people with an entrepreneurial or business development-oriented personality." The interview process includes "an initial interview with a department partner; an additional interview with several partners and associates in the department; a final group interview with partners and associates from multiple departments; and an offer by phone and letter." The entire process lasts approximately three months.
