ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

THE SCOOP

Perkins Coie got off to a good start: founded in 1912, the Seattle-based firm’s earliest clients included one William E. Boeing Sr., founder of the eponymous aeronautics company. The relationship with Boeing contributed to Perkins Coie’s reputation for representing high-tech and cutting-edge ventures in what has become one of the nation’s technology hotspots. Firm litigators are particularly well-known for taking on infringement, unfair competition, false advertising and anti-counterfeiting claims.

Governing Government

Perkins Coie entered the national spotlight following its 2006 victory before the U.S. Supreme Court in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, in which the Court ruled that the Bush Administration’s use of military commissions to try terrorism suspects was unconstitutional.

Perkins Coie SURVEY SAYS

OUR SURVEY SAYS

Vault’s Verdict: Associates at Perkins Coie are beaming over the firm’s commitment to diversity, pro bono, environmental initiatives and a partnership eager to help associates do stellar work for innovative clients. On the downside, some say work allocation is not great between satellite offices, and an overly democratic approach to decision-making can lead to bureaucratic logjams.

Associate Life

Satisfaction
• "Great people, fascinating and challenging work. What's not to love?"
• "I love what I do. I just do it an awful lot. If the hours were slightly less crazy, this would be the perfect job."
• "I have found satisfying and challenging work, excellent attorneys from whom I can learn, and an overall atmosphere of collegiality and attention to attorney development.  For a big firm, it's great."
• "The firm has challenging work and most people you run into throughout the firm are great. Being a firm that's only recently shifted to a national practice group model, however, there are still some issues."
