The world’s leading shoemaker and the biggest brand in global sportswear is equally well known for advertising campaigns that have created a new pantheon of American heroes and for fueling the dreams of kids on the playground and weekend warriors alike. The Beaverton, Ore.-based company designs and sells shoes for sports ranging from basketball and golf to lacrosse and more, and all manner of sporting wear to go with them. The company sells its products in about 170 countries and controls about one-third of the global footwear market. It generates just under 38 percent of sales in the United States, with just under 29 percent in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region and 14 percent in Asia and the Pacific. Nike’s other brands include luxury line Cole Haan, Hurley and Converse.
