Boston-based New Balance specializes in manufacturing footwear and other athletic apparel. The private company’s brands include Dunham, PF Flyers, Aravon, Warrior, Brine and the eponymous New Balance. The firm sells its products in more than 120 nations around the globe. Unlike many of its competitors, New Balance still has manufacturing operations in the United States and Europe. The company is also known for numbering its shoes rather than giving them names. During 2008, New Balance saw annual worldwide sales of about $1.64 billion, an increase from $1.63 billion in 2007.
