ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
Much more than chocolateNestlé is the world’s largest food company. With global headquarters in Switzerland, the company is probably best known in the United States for its chocolate Nestlé Crunch bars and Nestlé Nesquik powder. The conglomerate also leads the world in mineral water (Perrier) and coffee (Nescafé and Nescafé Taster’s Choice), and it owns a formidable share of the gourmet ice cream market. Nestlé USA also makes products in a range of other categories such as milk products, infant and sports nutrition, chocolate and confections, refrigerated and frozen food items, and pet foods. Brand names under the expansive Nestlé umbrella include Coffee-Mate, Edy’s ice cream, Kit Kat, Crunch and Smarties candies, Lean Cuisine microwave dinners, Nescafé and Nestea beverages, Ice Mountain, San Pellegrino and Perrier bottled waters, and Alpo, Fancy Feast, Purina and Friskies pet food. For the first half of 2009, the company reported a net profit of CHF 5.1 billion or $4.98 billion.
