Seattle-based Moss Adams is the nation’s 11th largest accounting firm by revenue, according to Accounting Today’s 2012 rankings. It has 22 offices, located primarily in the western U.S., and its clients include public, private, and not-for-profit enterprises. The firm operates through three main service lines (assurance, consulting, and tax), and its industry list includes apparel, construction, automotive dealerships, financial services, agribusiness, forest products, health care, hospitality and gaming, manufacturing and distribution, not-for-profit and government, real estate, technology and life sciences, telecom, and utilities. In addition, Moss Adams offers investment banking and asset management services through two affiliate companies: Moss Adams Capital LLC and Moss Adams Wealth Advisors LLC. The firm’s history dates to 1913, when Seattle accountant John G. McIntosh opened a small firm that provided services to the region’s lumber industry. Six years later McIntosh partnered with Albert Moss and Edwin Adams. Moss Adams, as the firm became known, spread beyond the Pacific Northwest in the 1960s when it opened several offices in California. It later expanded to Arizona, New Mexico, and Kansas. The largest accounting and consulting firm headquartered in the West, Moss Adams has approximately 2,000 personnel, including 263 partners. In 2012 it booked $344 million in revenues. It is led by Chris Schmidt, its chairman and CEO. Moss Adams is a founding member of Praxity, a global alliance of more than 100 independent accounting and auditing companies spread across more than 90 countries and territories.
