Getting Hired
Tips from the inside
Difficult and competitive, but worth it
Moore & Van Allen recruits on-campus at top law schools in the Southeast (with stops at Harvard, Yale, Michigan and Texas, as well), and favors candidates who are in the top 20 percent of their class and/or on law review. According to one insider, the firm "places a lot of importance on resume prestige"; and others confirm that MVA is "a difficult and competitive place to get a job but well worth the effort." Beyond the numbers, associates say that "the standards have become somewhat murky in recent years," but in general the partnership is seeking "motivated, energetic, communicative, intelligent applicants." It also helps to have "a sense of humor that is tempered with an understanding that we have to act as professionals in all dealings with the outside world."
