    ABOUT THIS COMPANY:

    Life with the Met

MetLife, ranked No. 39 on the 2009 Fortune 500, is the largest public life and health insurer in the United States.  The company works through three principal segments: an institutional division that provides group benefits products to large and small businesses; a suite of insurance products for individuals; and banking and investment services.  Its flagship insurance firm is Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, in addition to subsidiaries that include MetLife Investors (variable and fixed annuities, life insurance), General American (underwrites life insurance) and Metropolitan Property and Casualty (auto, home and related coverage).  The company’s international segment offers similar products to companies and individuals overseas, primarily in Latin America and the Asia/Pacific region.

    MetLife SURVEY SAYS

    Better than others

MetLife has a “very laid-back corporate culture” that’s “conservative, but much less so than other insurance companies.”  Another notes, perhaps wryly, that “we’re the No. 1 life insurer, and with the backing of Snoopy, I believe I have more support for success than with any other commission-based financial or insurance company in the U.S.”  The culture may ultimately depend on your office.
