ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
Midwestern giant
McGladrey LLP is the fifth-largest U.S. accounting firm by revenue (the largest non-Big 4 entity) and has more than 6,500 employees in 75 offices nationwide. Services include assurance, tax, consulting, and wealth management. Its international endeavors are enhanced by its membership in RSM International, a network of independent accounting and consulting firms in 100 countries that employs more than 32,500 people. The McGladrey name goes back several decades—to 1926 when Ira B. McGladrey opened an accounting practice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1984, McGladrey combined forces with A.M. Pullen & Company, a firm with headquarters in South Carolina and dozens of offices in the Southeast. The firm was renamed McGladrey & Pullen in 1987. Just over 10 years later, the firm sold its non-attest assets to H&R Block. But 12 years after that, in 2011, these assets (which operated under the name RSM McGladrey Inc.) were repurchased by McGladrey & Pullen. Also in 2011, Joe Adams was named managing partner and CEO. A year later, in 2012, the firm changed its name to McGladrey LLP.
