ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
Aisle be seeing youFormerly known as Federated Department Stores, Macy's is one of the largest department store chains in the United States. The company has around 850 department stores in 45 states (plus Puerto Rico and Guam). Stores carry the Bloomingdale's and Macy's names -- each of which dates to the mid-1800s -- but at one time the company's family included Famous-Barr, Filene's, Foley's, Hecht's, Kaufmann's, Lord & Taylor, L.S. Ayres, Marshall Field's, Meier & Frank, Robinsons-May, Strawbridge's and After Hours Formalwear. All of these have either been divested or converted to one of the two main brands.

Tips from the inside
Presentation is everything
Bloomingdale's and Macy's each has its own dedicated career site, but the bells and whistles included thereon are pretty similar. Anyone seeking employment can use the search function and, if warranted, apply for a position by completing the online application and attaching a resume. The organization offers paid internships -- Macy's and Bloomingdale's offered 350 of them in 2007 -- in some stores and in corporate offices during the summer.
