ABOUT THIS COMPANY:
Lyondell gets most of its revenues from what
was once ARCO Chemical, which it acquired in 1998. Thanks to that acquisition, Lyondell is one of the world's
largest makers of intermediate chemicals such as propylene oxide (used to make other chemicals), styrene
monomer (used to make plastics), and methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE, used to reduce gas emissions). The
company also has a controlling stake in petrochemical and polymers firm Equistar Chemicals. Other Lyondell
interests include controlling stakes in LYONDELL-CITGO Refining and Lyondell Methanol.
